about

“Open To The Wonder” is the second single released by self-described purveyor of “comfort music”, Still Wilson, in a series of six songs released April through July of 2020. Wilson's performance here reveals a patina of influence from both classic 70’s era song-craft and melancholy Celtic music. Understated guitar playing shows the thoughtful restraint of a serious player. His baritone voice conveys an equally thoughtful lyrical consideration for us all. Wilson adds, "We too easily let go of, are even encouraged to ignore after childhood, the wonder inherent of so much of our life’s experience. We'd do well to remember the value of remaining open to some of that magic when it feels like the shine is starting to wear off."

lyrics

This world can make you bitter
If you let it, but, don’t you let it
It doesn’t have to
Pain is going to test you
Struggle will test you
Fear and doubt will, too

No, not one thin dime can buy more time
Or a birdsong, or a sunrise
So before you go trading your soul for a handful of gold
You might consider this advice
There’s a current waiting to pull you under
So try to stay open to the wonder

Mighty money can fool you
But you can’t take it with you
Even if you chase it every day
Sorrow is not your mother
Trouble is not your father
And closing your heart ain’t the way

No, not one thin dime can buy more time
Or a birdsong, or a sunrise
So before you go trading your soul for a handful of gold
You might consider this advice
There’s a current waiting to pull you under
Try to stay open to the wonder
